Apple’s Health app will be able to sync with the Oculus Quest 2 for data

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announcement that iPhone users will be able to use Apple’s Health application to synchronize data from the Oculus Quest 2 headset. This will concern physical activities in virtual reality.

Synchronization between Oculus and the Apple Health app

Currently, when users exercise with interactive games like Liteboxer, Beat Saber Where Dance Central using the Oculus Quest 2, data can only be viewed on the Oculus Mobile app on the headset itself. It’s not particularly useful for those who like to track their fitness metrics.

From April, synchronization will be possible between Oculus and the Apple Health application, which is preinstalled on all iPhones. Here is what Meta says:

If you have an iOS device, you can choose to sync your VR fitness progress with the Apple Health app to automatically track your VR workouts on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch without having to Manually enter your exercise information. This means that all of your exercise stats, including your activities in and out of VR, can be tracked and available in one place.

Meta makes it known that synchronization will be opt-in. This means that the user will have to decide for himself if he wants to activate it. Activating it will push Meta to collect the data to put it on its servers, in order to set up synchronization. But the group assures that it will not use the data in question for advertising and it will use end-to-end encryption.
