Apple would prepare a monitor for Mac that can also be a connected screen

Apple is preparing new screens for Macs and one of them would have a peculiarity. According to Mark Gurman of Bloombergthe monitor would be able to become a connected display when paused.

The connected display would work using a chip present in iOS devices, which is not very surprising given that the Studio Display works the same way (using an A13 chip). But on the Studio Display, the software’s smarts just extend to the webcam and speaker system with features like Centered Frame and Spatial Audio.

With the new screen, several pieces of information would be displayed when the user is no longer using their Mac. It could be time, date, music player, widgets and more.

Apple has already more or less given a preview with iOS 17 which has a feature called “Sleep”. This displays what is shown before, but only when the iPhone is in landscape mode and charging. We should therefore expect a similar system with the screen dedicated to a Mac.

It will however be necessary to be patient because the screen in question would not arrive before 2024 at the earliest according to Gurman. It does not communicate the technical characteristics.
