Apple Store: $500,000 in products stolen through… a hole in the wall
Apple Stores are full of expensive products, with iPhones, Macs, iPads and more. This attracts thieves, who are looking for ways to get as many devices as possible. The most recent operation took place in Lynnwood, Washington State in the United States and made it possible to obtain $500,000 worth of Apple products by passing… through the room with the toilets.
The theft took place around 7 p.m. on Sunday from the Apple Store located in the Alderwood Mall. As the store had already closed for the day, employees did not learn of the theft until the next morning.
The thieves entered the Apple Store by punching a hole in the wall of the store room where the toilet is located. They were first able to enter this shop, which was also closed and locked at the time, by forcing the front door. Once inside, they were able to collect plenty of iPhones and other merchandise, worth more than $500,000 in total. They left the establishment the same way they entered.
Upon arrival, the thieves were able to recover 463 iPhones, as well as several Apple Watches and iPads. They obviously didn’t steal a Mac.
Lynnwood Police Communications Officer Maren McKay said he it was of one “well organized operation”. The thieves wore masks and gloves, leaving no fingerprints. The investigation is still ongoing and the police have refused to release the images from the surveillance cameras.
Regarding products, Apple should be able to block them remotely. Thieves will certainly sell them to several people, without specifying of course that all this is stolen and the products are blocked.
