Apple still sells these old devices (and that’s a good thing)

It’s been 28 years since the release of the Lion King and the first Blade Runner movie is now 40 years old. Some old Apple devices also last quite a long time. Yet a number of these ‘oldies’ are still being sold. And that’s actually a good thing!

Apple releases new products every year, but the old devices are (fortunately) not forgotten. This way you can still buy new Apple products that are already five years old. We have listed three of the nicest ‘old stuff’ for you.

1. A10 Fusion Processor

Remember the iPod Touch? The 2019 version is still sold by Apple. That was only a few years ago, you might think. But if you look at the specifications, you’ll see that this iPod has an A10 chip. And you first encountered this chip in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The release of the iPhone 7 generation was already in 2016 and this old animal has already been around for 6 years. Nevertheless, the devices are still for sale new and it is possible to install iOS 15 on the iPhone 7 (Plus).

2. Apple Watch Series 3

Also with the Apple Watch there is still an old-fashioned for sale. The Apple Watch Series 3 has support for WatchOS8, but was released in 2017. The big disadvantage of the Series 3 (except that it is actually quite a bit slower than the Apple Watch Series 7) is the limited storage space. You do not have to install many extra apps, because then you will quickly reach the limit. That is often the major disadvantage of old Apple devices: the available storage space is often no longer sufficient.

3. Mac mini (with Intel chip)

Another old acquaintance that is still sold is the Mac mini with Intel chip from 2018. The Intel mini has received several upgrades in recent years. There is now a Mac Mini with M1 chip and we keep our fingers crossed that there will be a Mac mini with M2 this year! Even so, Apple still sells the older Intel mini-series devices, but they are not always cheaper than the M1 version. However, there are reasons to go for the Intel mini anyway, and one of them is if you also want to run Windows on your Mac mini via Boot Camp.

Long support for old Apple devices

It is not surprising that Apple still sells the older products. The iPhone 7 still supports the most recent iOS version (15). And if you have an Apple Watch Series 3, you can still install the latest WatchOS (8) on it. The old Apple devices are often still a great option if you don’t want to spend (too) much money. Especially since sustainability is becoming increasingly important, it is good that Apple is providing support for the old devices for so long.

Still, you should always look around to see whether it is smart to buy an old Apple Watch Series 3 now, for example. The Apple Watch SE is a bit more expensive, but now a lot better than the Apple Watch Series 3.
