Apple sold the most. This is how the producers did in the last quarter of 2021

Smartphone manufacturers did well just before the end of 2021. Despite the ongoing pandemic and the crisis with a shortage of components, the segment remained afloat, although it recorded only a 1% year-on-year increase in total sales. The report was provided by the analytical company Canalys.

Apple dominated the market, with sales of its devices accounting for 22% of all smartphones sold in the quarter. The manufacturer has regained great interest in models from the iPhone 13 series, even though in some regions customers have had to wait for their new devices. The chip crisis did not bypass even a giant like Apple.

Q4 2020 Q4 2021
Apple 23 % 22 %
Samsung 17 % 20 %
Xiaomi 12 % 12 %
OPPO 10 % 9 %
vivo 9 % 8 %

Samsung took second place with a 20% share, improving by 3% year-on-year. Xiaomi continues to hold third with 20%, followed by Chinese OPPO and in vivo producers with 9% and 8% respectively.

The consequences of the chip crisis in 2021 were borne mainly by small producers

And with regard to the component shortage crisis, Canalys Mobility Vice President Nicole Peng says that despite the improving situation, the problems associated with the crisis will plague manufacturers until the second half of 2022. While large smartphone manufacturers are currently focusing on rebuilding best-selling series, device specifications and appeal to new chip manufacturers, smaller brands have a harder time. It can take large factories for large factories to increase their chip production capacity.
