Apple releases iPhone update for almost 10-year-old devices
Apple has released a new iPhone update: iOS 12.5.7. It contains a security update for altar iPhones. A quite surprising step, because the US company actually only supports devices that run at least iOS 16.
It is rather unusual for Apple to deliver new iOS updates for older iPhones. The tech group usually only focuses on newer models that run at least iOS 16.
But now the company is doing it apparently an exception and recently played this software update iOS 12.5.7 off. This means that even devices that are almost ten years old will receive a system update.

iOS 12.5.7: Apple releases new iPhone update and closes security hole
However, users of older models should not expect any new functions. Because the new update is only a security update. Apple wants to close a security gap in the Webkit browser engine. Previously, this allowed hackers to execute arbitrary code through maliciously designed web content.
The company is aware of a report “stating that this issue can be actively exploited for iOS versions released prior to iOS 15.1.” The vulnerability is said to be a type confusion issue and has been fixed with improved state handling.
Two iOS update for older models
Actually, Apple even updates two operating systems with the new update: In addition to iOS 12.5.7, the company also delivers iOS 15.7.3. At first it seems as if Apple has skipped the versions in between.
However, since users can update all devices running iOS 13 and iOS 14 to iOS 15, only the last version needs to be updated.
