Apple is said to be building the next-generation A processor into a whole range of products. Appointments are already circulating as well.

The Chinese magazine CN Beta claims that Apple has ordered 100 million A14 chips from TSMC relies on insiders. They also believe that preparations began early enough for the iPhone 13 to be presented in September. The new flagship should be the first product to contain the new chip. However, there are also other candidates, so it is unclear whether all units will move to iPhones.

Ten percent less battery consumption

According to the “upstream sources from the supply chain”, TSMC will produce the processors for the new iPhone “in August”. The time indicated probably means the start of production of the devices. Apple traditionally introduces the new smartphone series in the fall. Rumors made the rounds that Apple had ordered 90 million iPhone 13s. Optimists assume a maximum of 95 million iPhone units. In the last edition, Apple ordered 75 million processors, so the new order corresponds to an increase of a quarter. Observers are now speculating that, due to the tense delivery situation, Apple could also put chips in stock for the time being. Like its predecessor, the A15 is based on a 6-core architecture that TSMC produces in the 5nm process. However, the paver has upgraded this process a bit so that electricity consumption should be reduced by up to ten percent. Alternatively, you can get 5 percent more performance out of the models, says TSMC. If the rumors are true, Apple could use a longer runtime: The colored 120-heart screens need more power than their predecessors.

More products with A15 likely

According to various rumors, Apple is working on other devices with A15 processors. On the one hand, the iPhone SE is to get a new edition, but the sources agree that it will not be released until 2022. On the other hand, new iPads should be in preparation. While the new mini model, which is expected in the fall, should still rely on the predecessor, the big brother “Air” may have an A15 heart. However, the scene does not expect these devices until next year and then with a slightly drilled out chip, which should be named A15X. If you look at the current series, you will see that Apple has installed the same type of processor in the Air and in the iPhone 12 – so there was no X version.
