Apple no longer signs iOS 16.1.2 and iOS 15.7.1: restore and update blocked

Apple has stopped signing iOS 16.1.2 to its servers. Users with an iPhone or iPad can no longer install this version, either as an update or as a restore.

Apple released iOS 16.1.2 on November 30. This version has two changes: better compatibility with wireless carriers and crash detection optimizations on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.

Another update has since been released, namely iOS 16.2. For once, this version includes several new features, including the Apple Music Sing karaoke experience, extended end-to-end encryption for iCloud (for now in the United States), the Freeform application, two new widgets on the lock screen for sleep and meds, customization for Always-On Display on iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, 10-minute limit for AirDrop, and more. Also, Apple has plugged 35 security holes. This version can still be installed.

Note that Apple is currently offering a beta for iOS 16.3, both for developers and for public testers. The final version should normally see the light of day in February or March 2023.

Besides iOS 16.1.2, Apple has stopped signing iOS iOS 15.7.1. This version, which concerns devices that cannot upgrade to iOS 16, was released on October 27. The only version signed for older iPhones is iOS 16.7.2, which was recently released.
