Apple News+ is struggling with its readership

The Apple News+ service, which provides access to several magazines and newspapers, is struggling with its readership. Data shows that users are less interested in the top 25 magazines available on the platform.

Press Gazette was able to get the numbers from the Alliance for Audited Media (AAM) for Apple News+. We learn that the 25 largest magazines recorded 1,333,088 visits during the first half of 2022, compared to 1,255,802 in the same period a year earlier. This therefore technically represents an increase of 6.15%. However, this is down from the second half of 2021 (1,622,823).

“The top 25 magazines for each time period differ slightly, meaning that many individual titles in the current ranking have increased circulation significantly despite the overall trend”explains Press Gazette.

Apple News Plus Readership

In any case, the data suggests a seasonal aspect to readership, with more readers consuming magazines in the second half of the year compared to the first half. Also, news has an impact on traffic/visits. For example, the midterm elections in the United States took place in the second half of the year.

Apple News+ is available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia. The price is $9.99/month. It is also possible to take advantage of the service with the Apple One Premium subscription at $32.95/month. In France, the Premium subscription costs €31.95/month but does not include Apple News+ since the service does not exist here.
