Apple laptop gets rave reviews

Friday, July 15, was the day: the MacBook Air 2022 was finally for sale. Compared to the MacBook Air 2020, the laptop has received quite a few upgrades. In addition to a new look (which is somewhat like a thinner MacBook Pro), the Air has a brand new M2 chip as the most important innovation.

CNET

Dan Ackerman of CNET was very pleased with the larger screen. The new design and new colors were also an excellent upgrade, he said. He was also pleased that the MacBook Air 2022 finally had a high-res webcam with a higher resolution and better image processing. CNET also liked the speed of the laptop and the battery life. However, CNET was not happy about the price, because the MacBook Air 2022 is a lot more expensive than the previous MacBook Air.

Gizmodo

Gizmodo compares the performance of the MacBook Air 2022 to a Formula 1 racing car: it is lightning fast. They also really liked the new screen and webcam. Gizmodo does say that the performance gain you get over the M1 MacBook Air is very dependent on what you’re going to do with it. The battery life of the MacBook Air 2022 is fine, but so was that of the M1 MacBook Air.

At Gizmodo they were not positive about the speakers. While listening to music it was good, but with spoken text and conversations the sound was a lot less. Gaming on the MacBook Air 2022 also did not go well. Even with older games like Total War: Warhammer II, they only managed 26 frames per second.

Engadget

Engadget found the MacBook Air 2022 very thin and light with a bigger and better screen. In addition, they are very pleased with the speakers and the return of MagSafe. Due to the new M2 chip, the laptop is also a lot faster than the previous model. According to Engadget, Apple has set a new standard for ultraportable laptops.

They mention the price as disadvantages and that the MacBook Air 2022 sometimes drops the speed a bit during demanding and lengthy tasks. The lack of ProMotion was also a loss.

The Verge

Dan Seifert of The Verge says the MacBook Air 2022 is an upgrade in every way. Especially the better screen, speakers, design and webcam catch the eye. He does say that owners of older laptops can also look at the MacBook Air with M1.

The Verge considers the higher costs to be a negative point. Furthermore, the notch sometimes gets in the way and the SSD in the base model is a bit slower.
