Apple is working on touch-sensitive controls for AirPods Max
A new Apple patent gives a glimpse into the future of the AirPods Max. You may soon be able to operate the headphones with touch-sensitive sensors.

Future AirPods Max will work with touch-sensitive sensors
The next generation of AirPods Max may get touch-sensitive controls. That writes Patently Apple, based on leaked patents. Apple already received the first patent in 2019. It describes “smart fabrics” with touch sensors. In 2020, Apple filed for two more similar patents.
The touch-sensitive sensors are located on the outside of both ear cushions. Users can adjust the volume and change tracks by tapping the sensors. Regular AirPods and AirPods Pro already have touch-sensitive sensors. These are located in the peduncles of the ears.
The current AirPods Max can be controlled by means of a Digital Crown. This is a rotating, circular button that was introduced on the Apple Watch. With the Digital Crown of the AirPods Max you can control most of your music without having to reach for your iPhone.
You press the Digital Crown once to pause your music. You then resume your music by pressing it again. You may want to skip a song every now and then. That’s just possible; To do this, press the round button twice. Do you want to go back to the previous song? Then you press the Digital Crown three times.

The AirPods Max are Apple’s first wireless headphones. The device has the same ease of use as the AirPods and AirPods Pro earbuds. For example, the headband of the headphones is made of a comfortable, mesh-like material. This makes it feel as if the headphones are floating on your head.
