Future AirPods may get a really cool feature. These AirPods have a screen in the charging box.

Apple regularly continues to tinker with the design of the AirPods and the accompanying charging box. A patent has now surfaced that Apple already filed in 2021. It shows AirPods and the charging box, with screen.

Different variations

The patent describes various ways in which such a screen can be useful. For example, the screen can be used to adjust the volume of Apple Music or to skip to the next song, for example. This would then be done with haptic feedback, so that you ‘feel’ the buttons and don’t even have to look at the box.

Another way describes that Apple can use the screen of the new AirPods to perform certain gestures to allow. For example, you can swipe over the box to go to the next song. Apple also describes that you can squeeze the box to, for example, turn the noise reduction on (or off).

Of course, it is never certain whether these AirPods with a screen in the charging box will ever come. But it’s still cool to see Apple trying to give AirPods more new features.
