Apple is updating the Mac Pro with new graphics cards

Since the upgrade to in-house processors will still have to wait, Apple first launched new upgrade variants for the Mac.

The latest reports do not expect a new edition of Apple’s most powerful computer model Mac Pro until next year. To bridge the waiting time, the company has now added a couple of new graphics cards to the premium Mac. As usual, they all come from the house supplier AMD. Those who hoped for updated processors, however, were disappointed.

High-end cards at high-end prices

New in programm there is now a Radeon Pro W6800X with 32 gigabytes of GDDR6 memory for 2,780 euros. The MPX module provides 16 terflops in single-precision mode and 32 teraflops in half-precision calculations. Alternatively, Apple offers the duo version: two linked graphics processors of the same type deliver up to 60 teraflops per half-precision for 5,290 euros (single: 30 teraflops). If you want, you can also connect two duo modules via the integrated Infinity Fabric link and then access a total of four W6800X – cost: 11,040 euros.

The second innovation is called the Radeon Pro W6900X and has the same memory configuration. The manufacturer specifies the performance as 22.2 (single precision) and 44.4 teraflops. The single version costs 6,440 euros, while the two-pack has a price tag of 13,340 euros.

New graphics cards also available individually

In the configuration mask of the online shop you can find the four new options as well as the old graphics cards. If you already own a Mac tower from 2019 or later, you can buy and use the cards individually. Apple specifies a total of ten configurations, four of which are double variants. In the overview you can see which old cards are still in the range.
