Apple is testing “Apple GPT”, a ChatGPT-style chatbot to look at AI

Apple wants to compete with ChatGPT, Google Bard and other artificial intelligences. The group has therefore designed a chatbot, which is currently being tested internally. According Bloombergsome employees refer to it as “Apple GPT”.

A competitor to ChatGPT by Apple

Apple created its language model, known internally as Ajax. This framework was created last year to bring together machine learning development activities. Apple’s system relies on Jax, a Google framework for machine learning. Incidentally, Apple uses Google Cloud, as does Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its own network infrastructure to make it all work.

Given the popularity of chatbots like ChatGPT, Apple fears it is falling behind in new AI-based technologies that will change the way users interact with smartphones. Apple employees must obtain special access to access the chatbot the company is working on, and its results cannot be used to develop new product features for customers. It is used for product prototyping and can answer questions based on the data Apple used to train it.

Apple has several teams working on artificial intelligence and trying to solve issues like privacy. Even with Siri, Apple has always been more careful than its competitors, aiming to put privacy before functionality. Apple has been criticized for Siri’s shortcomings compared to competing products from Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon and others.

On the other hand, Bloomberg indicates that Apple would have considered signing a contract with OpenAI (creator of ChatGPT) and would have tested OpenAI’s technology for its corporate teams, before finally retracting.

There is no information regarding the potential public release date of such a chatbot by Apple. Despite everything, it is specified that Apple would like to hit hard in 2024 with announcements related to artificial intelligence.
