Apple introduces MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with M2 Pro and M2 Max chip
Apple has surprisingly introduced a new MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Mac chip. Also: A new Mac Mini with M2 and M2 Pro chip. We will introduce you to the new devices and give you a price overview.
In 2020 and 2021, the Mac Mini and MacBook Pro were some of the first Macs that Apple upgraded to its new “Apple Silicon” platform. The successor models with the M2, M2 Pro and M2 Max chip are now following. The US group announced this unusually via press release and video instead of at an event.
MacBook Pro 14 and 16 with M2 Pro or Max chip
After a big change in design in 2021 with the 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro models, the new generation Apple keeps the design. This means that the notch in the display and the slightly rounder MacBook remain. The processor, on the other hand, is new. Because Apple presented its new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.
The Pro chip expands the M2 by up to twelve cores in the CPU and 19 cores in the GPU. The maximum RAM memory is 32 gigabytes. The GPU can be expanded up to 38 cores in the Max chip. The chip also offers twice the bandwidth for RAM memory, which can be increased to up to 96 gigabytes.
In its press release, Apple talks about the M2-Max as the “world’s most powerful and energy-efficient chip for a professional laptop”. The chips are not only faster, they also support Wi-Fi 6E and 8K HDMI video as well as 4K displays with a refresh rate of 240 Hertz. The battery life should be up to 22 hours. Preinstalled on all models: the latest MacOS Ventura.

In terms of price, however, Apple is tightening the screws. The entry-level model of the 14 MacBook Pro with M2 Pro costs around 2,399 euros. The full equipment goes for 3,699 euros over the counter.
Meanwhile, you pay 2,999 euros for the entry-level model of the 16 MacBook Pro. The most expensive model costs 4,149 euros without extended memory. The new Macs can be pre-ordered now. Delivery: from January 24, 2023.
New Mac Mini with M2 (Pro): New processors and more ports
The Mac Mini was Cupertino’s first computer with its own chip and is now expanding into two versions. While the M2 models have two Thunderbolt 4 ports, the M2 Pro model of the Mac ;ini comes with four ports.
These also support 8K monitors as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Both models still have two USB-A ports, an HDMI port and a Gigabit Ethernet adapter. The Mac’s headphone jack has been improved and can now also deliver audio to high-impedance headphones.

The new Mac Mini starts at a price of 699 euros and will also be delivered from January 24th. The more expensive version with the M2 Pro chip costs at least 1,549 euros.
