Report: Samsung plans new AR glasses

With the Gear VR, Samsung offered virtual reality glasses a few years ago, but in the end did not achieve the desired success. The Galaxy S10 phone was the last to officially support Gear VR. Now rumors are multiplying that Samsung is aiming for some sort of comeback. A developer kit for AR glasses with the model number SM-I110 appeared a year ago.

Samsung is now testing new AR glasses internallywhich has the model number SM-I120 (source: galaxy club). Whether this is another prototype or a developer kit is still unclear. But it could also be a pre-series device that will be released in competition with Apple’s glasses in the coming year.

What is certain is that Samsung recently introduced a new technology called E-Skin. About that one should complex tactile feedback and significantly more immersion be possible, which could put existing VR controllers in the shade. E-Skin is intended to simulate various sensory impressions from pain to changes in temperature and pressure. Samsung has supported the research over a five-year period as part of its Future Technology Promotion Project.
