Apple finally wants to bring back popular features

It has not yet been conclusively clarified what Apple will ultimately surprise us with with the iPhone 13. In any case, this would be possible with the return of a once popular feature. A current report gives hope.

One thing seems certain: the iPhone 13 will traditionally be presented again in September 2021, not later than last year. However, it is uncertain whether Apple will finally be able to bring back a popular feature. Mostly well-informed Mark Gurman from Bloomberg knows at least about current test work by the US manufacturer. As a result, Apple would like to bring back Touch ID (fingerprint sensor) with the iPhone 13.

iPhone 13: Apple is working on the return of Touch ID

Many users swear by it and would like to have the option of Touch ID to unlock the iPhone in addition to Face ID (face recognition). Apple is currently testing the option of an in-display fingerprint sensor for this purpose. That would then be below the screen. Such an option is not new, many Android devices already have it. However, there were and still are difficulties with the accuracy, probably one reason why Apple has refrained from integrating it so far. However, this could change with the successor to the iPhone 12. GIGA thinks: That would be great. But even if Apple fails with the in-display fingerprint sensor, Touch ID could still return. The way is shown by the current iPad Air 4, which hides the sensor discreetly in the on / off switch of the tablet.

Fingerprint sensor in the display? Was it for the first time with Android smartphones three years ago:

Apart from that, there are rather minor changes to the iPhone 13 – we reported. As Gurman writes, major innovations will only follow later or apart from the “normal” iPhone. Apple is still working on an iPhone without connections, but this model should still have MagSafe for power supply. Everything else in terms of communication and data exchange is wireless. According to Gurman, such an iPhone could appear in 2021.

Foldable iPhones: Secret and with an uncertain future

We will definitely not see foldable iPhones this year, but Apple is already working on it, according to the Bloomberg reporter. Accordingly, the iPhone manufacturer is currently testing various models with different display sizes, including those with a 6.7-inch screen, similar to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The hinges for the folding mechanism should be virtually invisible. But we shouldn’t be happy too soon, because it is not yet clear when and whether Apple will even introduce such iPhones. In this respect, the report should rather not have any influence on our purchase decision about the upcoming Apple mobile phone. As the saying goes: Better to have the iPhone 13 in hand than the foldable iPhone on the “roof of fantasy”.
