After a year and a half, Apple is presenting a new iPad Pro and in the end it only meets the minimum expectations of customers. There aren’t any real surprises, Apple only concedes that to the new 10th generation iPad.

iPad Pro 2022: M2 and WLAN 6E, that’s all there is

The new features of the 2022 iPad Pro are very straightforward. The focus is certainly on the M2 chip, which again speeds up the tablet considerably. The support for the faster WLAN 6E is also worth mentioning. We searched in vain for more hardware innovations (source: Apple).

No wireless charging, no mini-LED screen on the 11-inch, no new design. After all, in conjunction with the M2 chip, videos can also be recorded in ProRes format for the first time. But overall, only the minimum expectations are met. The front camera is also missing in landscape format. Surprisingly, the new orientation can only be found in the new 10th generation iPad, not in the professional model.

Apple has to reach into its bag of tricks in the press release and, last but not least, bring numerous software features from iPadOS 16 into play in order to fill the space. Speaking of which: Apple will then make version 16.1 of the new update available for download starting October 24th. The new iPads are of course delivered directly with it.

Apple’s massive price increases

In terms of prices, Apple is right this time in the wake of the current price increases due to the poor euro exchange rate. While the cheapest iPad Pro (11 inch) used to cost 879 euros, you now have to shell out at least 1,049 euros for the latest generation. It’s even more expensive with the 12.9-inch model – previously available from 1,199 euros, now at least 1,449 euros are due. In both cases, as before, with 128 GB of memory. If you want more, you have to pay even more. Honestly, if you still manage to buy the old models at a reasonable price, you should probably avoid the new generation.
