Apple changed name ‘iPhone 14 Max’ at the last minute
Shortly before Apple introduced the iPhone 14 Plus, it became clear that the name of the 6.7-inch version was not going to be an iPhone 14 Max. Now it appears that Apple has decided quite late to implement the name change.

iPhone 14 Plus was first iPhone 14 Max
On the Apple website no less than three times with the name iPhone 14 Max reference is made to the smartphone that eventually came to be called the iPhone 14 Plus. That is of course no coincidence.
1. File name on the overview page
The first time can be found on Apple’s overview page where you can see all iPhones. The name can be found there in a file name. When you save the photo from iPhone 14 Plus, you will see that the file name iPhone-14-max-colors is.
2. In Apple’s newsroom
The second time the name is used is in Apple’s Newsroom. The name iPhone 14 Max is here in the alt tag of the image. This label is actually for blind and partially sighted people, who can have the text read aloud so they know what’s in the picture.
3. Website with standards and guidelines for iPhones
The third clue can be found on Apple’s Declaration of Conformity page. These are statements that products comply with certain standards and guidelines. Here too, the device is referred to as iPhone 14 Max. The serial number (A2886) mentioned is the same number that belongs to the iPhone 14 Plus.
Why then iPhone 14 Plus?
The reason why Apple changed the iPhone 14 Plus name so late is not entirely clear. Maybe it was to avoid confusion. The addition ‘Max’ has been referring to the large devices for quite some time. But those were always the Pro models. Because of the Plus in the name, there is a clearer difference between the iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
