Apple AR/VR headset: release by December and production in October
Apple will announce its mixed-reality headset on June 5 at the WWDC keynote, but don’t expect a release just yet. Indeed, the device would not arrive before the end of the year.
According to Erik Woodring, an analyst at investment bank Morgan Stanley, the mass production of Apple’s headphones will begin next October and the marketing will take place in December, in time for the end of year celebrations. However, don’t expect this to be everyone’s gift under the tree given the price: rumors suggest a price of around $3,000.
Apple’s supply chain is preparing to assemble between 300,000 and 500,000 headsets in 2023, according to the analyst. He adds that gross margins should approach break-even early on, suggesting that Apple will only make minimal profits on the device at first.
On the other hand, he in turn confirms that Apple will take advantage of the WWDC keynote to announce its MacBook Air with a 15-inch screen. This portable Mac is expected to be more than similar to the existing 13-inch model (same design, same chip), except it will have a bigger screen.
