Apple would consider a titanium chassis for the iPad

The next iPad could change chassis to go on titanium. According to Digitimes, Apple is considering this choice, but the manufacturer knows that it would represent an increase in costs and it may not be a positive point for consumers.

Last month, noises from the hallway reported a titanium frame not for the iPad, but for the 2022 iPhones. In addition, previous Apple patents have mentioned such a use for different products, including the iPhone, iPad and MacBook. It therefore seems that something is brewing at Apple, which would choose titanium for strength and durability.

Titanium has a relatively high hardness which makes it more scratch resistant compared to stainless steel. Its rigidity makes it durable enough to resist bending. However, the strength of titanium makes it difficult to engrave. Apple has therefore developed a process of sandblasting, etching and chemistry that allows titanium cases to be given a high gloss surface finish for a more attractive appearance. Apple has also been researching the use of surface coatings that can reduce the appearance of fingerprints.

Titanium is already a reality at Apple in terms of the Apple Card and a case for the Apple Watch.
