Apple adds the iPhone 6 to its list of legacy products

Apple has updated its list of legacy products to add the iPhone 6. This comes a few months after the iPhone 6 Plus, which achieved that status last February.

Products are considered legacy when Apple discontinued marketing more than five years ago and less than seven years ago. There are also obsolete products. This concerns models that Apple stopped marketing more than seven years ago.

The iPhone 6 was released in September 2014 alongside the iPhone 6 Plus. It was sold in 2015 as a lower cost option after the launch of the iPhone 6s, then was discontinued in 2016 alongside the launch of the iPhone 7. It was reintroduced as an entry-level iPhone in some countries in 2017, and it continued to be sold until September 2018.

The iPhone 6 was a notable product because Apple offered two screen sizes for the first time (4.7 and 5.5 inches), where the iPhone 5s was available in one format (4 inches). It was also an opportunity to have a new, thinner design and support for Apple Pay.

In addition to iPhone 6 on the Legacy List, Apple today placed the 2012 iPod nano 7, iPod touch 5G and 2012 iPod shuffle on its Discontinued List. As for the iPod nano of 2015 and the iPod shuffle of 2015, they join the list of old products.
