App Store: Subscription spending increased in 2020
IPhone and iPad users have spent billions of dollars on subscriptions for apps from the App Store. According to Sensor Tower, spending set a new record at $ 10.3 billion for the 100 most popular apps.
Heavy spending on App Store app subscriptions
This sum of $ 10.3 billion for application subscriptions from the App Store represents an increase of 32% over one year. In comparison, the sum on the Android side was $ 2.7 billion, up 42%. This difference is quite significant. iOS has a market share of around 15-20% worldwide, yet users spend significantly more than their peers with an Android device.
The most hungry users for in-app subscriptions are Americans. They spent $ 5.9 billion, which is an increase of 26% from 2019. $ 4.5 billion of this amount was for iOS.
Speaking of Americans, the image above shows the top 10 apps that have generated the most revenue. The first column groups the App Store and the Play Store. The winners were YouTube, Disney + and Tinder. If we only take into account the App Store, we find the same applications, with a reversal of place for Tinder and Disney +. On the Android side, Google One is ahead of Disney + and Pandora.
