App Store: App prices are increasing in some countries
Apple is warning developers that the prices of their apps on the App Store will increase from July 25 in some countries. This follows a change in VAT or exchange rate as the case may be.
In an email, Apple noted :
The App Store commerce and payment system was designed to make it easy for you to create and sell your products and services globally, in 44 currencies, across 175 countries. When tax regulations or exchange rates change, we sometimes need to update prices on the App Store in certain regions and/or adjust your recipes. These updates are made using publicly available exchange rate information from financial data providers to ensure prices for apps and in-app purchases remain the same across all storefronts.
Starting July 25, pricing for apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) will be updated for Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Turkey. This involves the following changes:
- Egypt: introduction of a value added tax (VAT) of 14%.
- Tanzania: introduction of an 18% VAT and a 2% digital services tax.
- Türkiye: increase in the VAT rate from 18% to 20%.
According to Apple, if the base country of a developer’s app or in-app purchase is not Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, or Turkey, prices will increase for those countries.
The prices section has been updated in theApp Store Connect to highlight these upcoming tariff changes. Developers can change the prices of their apps, in-app purchases and auto-renewable subscriptions at any time.
