Apka Microsoft Teams now works as a universal radio

The cooperative communication application Microsoft Teams, which gained a lot of other regular users during the pandemic, is coming up with a useful new feature. It is possible through it call like from a classic walkie-talkie (or Walkie Talkie) at the touch of a button. This feature has been in preparation for a long time, but has not yet been available on all platforms. It’s working now in all forms of application, including the one for Android.

The newly introduced feature hit applications a few days ago, specifically in an update released on January 12. After installing it, users should find it in the bottom menu new Walkie Talkie button (we do not know the exact Czech name yet), which leads to this form of communication. Then all you have to do is hold the microphone symbol and it is possible to talk to the other person or the whole group directly, while for transmission it is the current internet connection is used.

As part of the introduction of the Walkie Talkie feature in its Teams tool, Microsoft has even shown hardware that natively supports this feature. In cooperation with Zebra Technologies created a special phone, which has (just like a regular walkie-talkie) a dedicated button on the side for “push-to-talk” communication.
