Since Android 10 it’s been swiping instead of typing. Gesture control has many advantages, such as more space. Because buttons for home, back and the last opened apps no longer have to be permanently displayed on the screen. So far, however, the problem has been the back gesture, the behavior of which often resembled a surprise: sometimes it took you back a step, sometimes it closed the app completely. Google now wants to change that.
Back gesture for Android smartphones will be revised
In addition, the search engine provider now has the so-called “anticipatory back gesture” announced (Source: Android Developers). Here the name says it all: by means of a small animation users are shown where the back gesture they have started will ultimately lead. Google illustrates how this looks in practice here:
Pity: According to Google, Android 13 does not include the new back gesture. After all, an “early version” should be available for testing in the fourth beta, which can be activated via the developer options. According to the latest information, Android 13 could be launched as early as September. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Google didn’t introduce a fundamentally revised navigation for the last few meters.
