Android 14’s codename is Upside Down Cake
Android 14 won’t arrive until 2023 and today Google unveils the codename: it’s Upside Down Cake. As a reminder, the code name for Android 13 is Tiramisu.
Android 14 is codenamed Upside Down Cake
Each year, Google gives its latest major release of Android a dessert-inspired codename, following alphabetical order. In the past, these codenames were also the official names for every version of Android, including brand names like Android KitKat and Android Oreo.
The situation was spoiled however when we arrived at the letter Q. The name was finally Queen’s Cake (the cake of the Queen), but it was not the public name. Indeed, Android 10 is simply called Android 10, where its predecessor was publicly known as Android 9.0 Pie. As of 2019, we only have numbers.
Despite everything, Google continues to give an internal code name and the one for Android 14 is therefore Upside Down Cake. The name is even stylized since Google writing “UpsideDownCake”, with no spaces between each word.
For information, an upside-down cake is a cake that is baked “upside down” in a single pan, with its fillings at the bottom of the pan. When it comes out of the oven, the finished preparation is turned over and served on a plate, which allows it to be “straightened” and served upright.
