Android 12L is Android 12 with one very specific purpose

Android 12 just came out, but Google is already releasing a brand new version called 12L, with one very specific goal in mind.

Google is slowly but surely rolling out the latest version of the Android 12 operating system. What many people do not know is that a second version of the OS will be released under the name Android 12L. Google has created a separate branch of the operating system with one specific goal: to facilitate large screens.

Android 12L goes big

So, the 12L variant of Android 12 is designed to work well on large screens. But actually, Android can already do that. In fact, one of the most important aspects of Google’s OS is that it can run on just about any device of any dimensions. That in contrast to, for example, Apple, which has been making different operating systems for different devices for years.

Yet Google opts for a dedicated variant. That provides a lot of unique possibilities, as Apple proved before. Android 12L will enjoy the opportunity, because the OS is made for large screens.

Aspects such as the user interface, the layout of the screen and the home screen itself are all ‘magnified’. This allows, for example, users with a tablet to lose more on the screen than with standard Android.

Even more important is the possibility for additional multitask functionalities. The advantage of tablets (but also of foldable smartphones, which are slowly but surely becoming mainstream) is that extra information can be shown on the screen. By opening multiple apps at the same time or reducing screens as an overlay, users will soon be able to enjoy plenty of extra options with Android 12L.
