Amazon plans to open several department stores in the US
Amazon is not only interested in online sales, with the merchant planning to open several large physical stores, first in the United States. The first establishments are expected to open in the states of Ohio and California, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The size of Amazon’s department stores would be just under 3,000 square meters. It is a relatively small space compared to the traditional shopping centers in the country. Amazon could sell its own products there, ranging from clothing and electronics to furniture, but other big brands could also be present in these spaces.
This project is not the first of Amazon, the e-commerce giant already operating stores for several years through its 4-star stores and Amazon Books bookstores. As it does with its bookstores, Amazon uses data from online sales in its 4-star stores to make its product selection. He sells a selection of Amazon products and other brands rated at least 4 stars, on a scale of 5.
In addition, Amazon already has a foothold in the world of physical stores. The group bought the retail chain Whole Foods in 2017 for $ 13.7 billion. And since 2018, the company has had Amazon Go stores – cashless grocery stores where purchases are recorded by sensors and cameras.
