Cider: Alternative to Apple Music app and iTunes

When you have Apple Music on your iPhone and use a Windows PC, you are stuck with iTunes when you want to listen to music on your computer. However, iTunes on Windows does not have the best reputation, as the program is slow and many components are missing.

A group of developers had enough and they created a new program to listen to Apple Music. Cider is available for Windows, but the app is also free to download for Linux and macOS. When using Apple Music on your Mac, Cider is an interesting alternative. But on a Windows PC, Cider might just be the iTunes replacement.

More features than iTunes and Apple Music

iTunes on Windows has only the basic features you would expect from the program. Features that have been in Apple Music on iOS, macOS and even Android for years are still missing on the PC. For example, think of lyrics that are shown at the right time in the song.

In addition, Cider also has features that are not even in the Apple Music app. It’s pretty easy to follow artists in the app and you can easily find songs you’ve played recently (click on ‘History’ next to ‘Recently Played’).

Cider can even be controlled remotely from another device, a feature not found in Apple Music. Furthermore, Cider has support for Chromecast and much more. All this makes Cider an interesting alternative to the Apple Music app and iTunes.

Download Cider

Want to try out Cider on your Mac? Cider for macOS is available for download from GitHub. Then choose ‘Cider.dmg’ and install the program. For Windows users, Cider can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

The program is currently still under development. So it can always happen that you run into problems or that some functions do not work properly.
