‘All those holidays are too long and unnecessary’
Where the May holiday is the moment for one parent to enjoy time together, for another it is a struggle to combine work and children full-time. We posted a statement on social media. And the reactions, they vary quite a bit…
For example, Natalya writes: ‘How nice is it to have your children with you? Have a nice break with them. And Inge also thinks it’s something, those two weeks of May holiday: ‘No, perfect. The young people also need this holiday.’ Nathas writes: ‘Certainly not! The 2 boys were really ready! After the holidays those citos will start again and they still have plenty of tests.’
There are parents who are less happy with the long May holiday. For example, Lilian writes: ‘All school holidays are too long anyway, too much unnecessary’. Another writes: ‘I would have preferred another week in June, now until July 22nd it is really a long time for them. And then Ascension Day and Pentecost don’t really have much added value, I personally think. Those days are too short to really unload from school…’ Ellen even proposes to go to school during the weekend and her proposal is widely supported.

Still others argue for an even longer May holiday. For example, Esra writes: ‘3 weeks of May vacation, 3 weeks of summer vacation. That would be perfect’. Vanessa also likes a longer holiday in the spring: ‘Maybe another week. It is quieter at the holiday address and you really scale down as a family. The summer holidays may be a week shorter.’
