all the details at a glance
Google has announced two new products under the Nest banner. These are the Nest Cam and the Nest Doorbell. The two new products further expand the portfolio of smart home devices.
New Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell
Google acquired Nest a while ago and releases its smart smart home devices under the Nest brand name. The company has now presented two new products; the Nest Cam and the Nest Doorbell. Both devices no longer need to be connected to the power supply, but can also be used in combination with the rechargeable battery. You can also choose to still hang them on the power. The advantage of the rechargeable battery is that you can mount the Nest devices in a location that you find convenient, even if there is no socket nearby.
Nest Cam
We’ll start with the Nest Cam. The new generation is IP54 certified, making it more resistant to water. This allows it to be used both indoors and outdoors. The 2 megapixel 130-degree camera, which records images in Full HD, can be digitally zoomed in and motion detection is also available. A Floodlight version of the Nest Cam is also coming. It has two lamps on either side. These can be switched on for filming in the dark, or used as extra lighting. The Nest Cam is equipped with a speaker and microphone, just like the previous edition.
It is a smart camera, and we see that reflected in the functionality. There is motion detection over a field of view of 110 degrees and 7.5 meters away. You can switch directly with the camera via the Google Home app, but also view images directly on the Google Nest Hub.
Nest Doorbell
The new Nest Doorbell is the smart doorbell that has been announced. When the doorbell rings, you can choose that the sound is also played via Nest speakers or displays. The doorbell is equipped with a camera; which is able to detect certain events. Think of a parcel deliverer; about which you can receive a notification. By means of night vision, the images in the evenings must also be of good quality. This smart device also works again with the help of the Google Home app or the Nest Hub. To prevent unwanted surprises, you can also see the battery capacity of the doorbell via the app. If the battery is low, it may enter a special battery saver mode.
Availability
From August 24 you can buy the Nest Cam and the Nest Doorbell with battery for 199.99 euros. The wired Nest Cam and the Nest Cam with Floodlight will be available later. The price has not yet been shared.
