‘All plugs were blown and our entire row at the campsite had no power’

Sharon prefers to go camping on her own with the kids a few times a year. Nice and impulsive, don’t figure out too much and in case of accidents there is always help to be found.

Sharon (32), mother of Bram (5) and Roos (2):

“My husband doesn’t like holidays at all. That’s why I go camping on my own with the kids. I bought a ‘sleurhut’ especially for it and wrote down my adventures in the book Everything runs smoothly!

Accidents

I am away for about seven weeks a year. Every other week I move again, because otherwise I find it boring. But don’t think I’m figuring everything out accurately beforehand. I am very impulsive and so ‘accidents’ happen regularly. Then the battery turns out to be empty or I get a terrifying spot on the water.

Fortunately, no one is as sweet as a camping guest; always willing to exchange places or to help with blown away tent cloths and technical problems.

Emergency number

Although the maintenance man of the camping site not amused was when I called him at 11 o’clock in the evening last summer on the emergency number. It was terribly cold and I had plugged in an extra heater regardless of the amperage.

In one fell swoop, all the plugs tripped and our entire row had no power. The mechanic turned out to live fifty minutes away.”
