‘AirPods Lite coming’ (or are these just the AirPods 2?)

Apple is reportedly working on new cheaper AirPods. What will these AirPods Lite look like and when can we expect them?

AirPods Lite: cheaper model AirPods

The AirPods have always been on the pricey side. You can currently get the AirPods 3 for € 187.95 and the AirPods Pro 2 for no less than € 268.95. Decent prices for a pair of earphones, which Apple now wants to change.

The AirPods Lite is a cheaper entry-level model of the AirPods on the market. In this way, Apple wants to compete with the cheaper wireless earphones and the AirPods must be accessible to a wider audience.

That’s how expensive (or cheap) the AirPods Lite get

With the introduction of the AirPods 3, Apple already chose to keep the AirPods 2 for sale. The AirPods 2 then dropped in price and are now on sale for 159 euros. This makes the second generation currently the ‘cheaper’ model among the AirPods.

The expectation is that the AirPods Lite will be a bit cheaper than the AirPods 2. If Apple wants to compete with the cheaper wireless earphones, the AirPods Lite will have to cost around 100 euros. How far Apple actually wants to bring the price of the earphones down remains to be seen.

AirPods Lite, AirPods 2 or AirPods SE?

What the technical aspects of the cheaper AirPods will be is still unknown. It is expected that the earphones will not differ much from the AirPods 2 in terms of design. The AirPods Lite will not receive any major updates in terms of content, after all, it remains the cheaper entry-level model. The disadvantage of this is that the earplugs then feel like an ‘outdated’ product.

Apple can of course also choose to put a new chip in the cheaper AirPods. Apple previously did this with the iPhone SE, so it’s no surprise that this also happens with the AirPods. The AirPods SE will then receive the U1 chip, which enables ‘Precision finding’. The question is whether Apple can still keep the price low.

Cheaper AirPods will appear this year

Apple is expected to release the AirPods Lite this year. The AirPods Lite are, next to the new AirPods Max, the only pair of AirPods that Apple will release this year. In any case, we are curious at what price the AirPods Lite will appear on the market.
