AirPods can be updated via the Mac from macOS 12.3, but it remains vague

Updating AirPods via the Mac
The beta of macOS Monterey 12.3 has recently been released. This update makes it possible to update your AirPods from now on via the Mac to the latest version of the firmware. That’s good news, because you no longer have to reach for your iPhone or iPad to update your AirPods, AirPods Max or your AirPods Pro.
It is a pity that updating the earbuds still remains quite vague. You will not receive an automatic notification when a new firmware is available. The AirPods are updated completely automatically.
When an update is available, you can ensure that you get the new firmware version as soon as possible. First, you put the AirPods in the charging case. Then plug the charging cable into the case and plug it into the socket. It is important that your iPhone is connected to the internet and is close to your AirPods.
Updating the AirPods via the Mac still remains just as vague. You still do not get to see if an update is available and the update is completely automatic. The Mac also does not show the current firmware of the AirPods. Still, it’s better than nothing, as updating the AirPods through the Mac is still a welcome addition for Apple fans who don’t have an iPhone or iPad.
By the way, MacOS Monterey 12.3 beta is currently only available to developers. The final version will probably be available to everyone around April.
