After the PS5 scandal, the company is now taking on Nintendo: “You can do it to us”
The Dbrand company has attracted attention in the past when trying to sell PS5 faceplates. Now the company is very interested in selling their Zelda stickers and even equips them with aggressive messages.
First PS5, now Switch: Dbrand sells Zelda sticker sets
In February 2021, the company already attracted attention when it began bespoke PS5 faceplates for sale – the so-called Darkplates. Although Dbrand was not afraid of legal action from Sony at the time, they eventually received a letter from the mega-corporation’s lawyers. In October 2021, Dbrand finally announced that it would stop selling the faceplates (source: VGC). However, that didn’t last long. Dbrand is reselling the PS5 faceplates, in version 2.0 without the pattern that Sony claims infringes their trademark rights.
“We have decided to bow to the terrorists’ demands… for now, it was said at the time.”
Now Dbrand is back, but it’s no longer about the PlayStation 5, but about the Nintendo Switch OLED – more precisely about the Special Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Here the Joy Cons shine in an elegant gold, decorated with dark green and white patterns that you will recognize in the game. The whole thing extends to the white docking station, whose golden decorations round it off (source: game tips).
The Switch OLED model is also now available as a bundle with the game:
Dbrand now offers under the name “Clone of the Kingdom” a sticker set with this beautiful design and left a cryptic message for the lawyers (Source: Dbrand).
On the dock is a code, which means “F…k yourself, lawyers!”. Also around the logo is the sentence: “This finances our legal defence”.
The company is again very aggressive and offers the sticker set even for Valve’s Steam Deck at. It’s probably only a matter of time before Nintendo and Valve respond.
What can the Steam Deck actually do? We tell you in our video:
Nintendo on the hunt
Nintendo is currently reacting sensitively to major leaks, especially when it comes to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. That’s why the company is currently concentrating primarily on switch emulators like Skyline and is therefore pursuing the Lockpick RCM project. Here, however, the legality of the procedure is disputed (source: game tips).
