Acer’s first e-bike weighs just 16 kilograms

With the first e-bike, Acer moves massively away from its core business. In view of declining sales figures in the global PC business, expanding into new business areas is a smart move. (E-)bikes in particular are ideal for Acer, since the company’s home country, Taiwan, is the largest bicycle exporter in the world.

With the Ebii, Acer initially presented a 16 kilogram light and compact pedelec with smart functions at the Taiwan Bicycle Show.

Acer Ebii: Urban e-bike with an unconventional design

The first thing that catches the eye of the Acer Ebii is its striking design, in which a rectangular tube is the central element of the electric bicycle, with the steering tube integrated at the front and the seat tube at the rear. The Ebii’s flatless 20-inch tires are designed for urban use for short to medium commuting distances.

The front wheel with a 250 watt hub motor is mounted on one arm, the rear wheel is driven by a belt. Inside the square main frame is a removable 460 watt hour battery, which should be sufficient for a range of up to 100 kilometers. The control module is also integrated in the removable battery pack.

Practical: According to Acer, the battery can also be used as a power bank for smartphones or notebooks. According to Acer, if the battery is empty, a complete recharge takes two and a half hours.

According to Acer, the Ebii has a number of safety features: It has oncoming vehicle detection and an “ambient lighting system” that is housed in the lower part of the main tube. The front LED and rear lights are also controlled by automatic lighting.

According to the manufacturer, the control element in the battery pack provides various smart functions, such as an AI-supported drive control, with which the motor support can be intelligently adapted to the pedaling power, the driving conditions, the route and the preferred level of support.

Acer has integrated a radar sensor underneath the saddle, which should be able to warn of objects approaching from behind. Acer has also developed a smartphone app for the Ebii, which is supposed to enable automatic locking, theft warning function, GPS location recording and navigation.

The manufacturer has not yet revealed when and if Acer will bring the Ebii to Germany. After all, already exists a German product pagewhich makes us speculate on a potential market launch in local areas.

In addition to the pedelec, Acer has other companions at the start: at least in France and a few other countries, the manufacturer already offers them two electric scooters. A Germany start of these two vehicles would not be excluded.
