According to Idealo, you can still save here in 2022

It won’t be long before the savings marathon around Black Friday is due again this year. But the high inflation doesn’t stop at bargain hunters either. The price comparison portal Idealo now reveals how much you can actually save this year.

Black Friday in times of inflation: You can still save on these products

Prices are rising practically everywhere and almost without a break. It is no coincidence that many consumers ask themselves: Is Black Friday on November 25, 2022 even worth it this year? The price comparison portal Idealo has the answer, and it turns out to be mixed. Whether there is a real bargain among the offers depends on several factors. The chances are not as bad as one might think given the current situation.

According to the price portal’s investigation, prices have not risen everywhere. To do this, the current average prices of 100 popular product categories were compared with the corresponding average prices from the same month last year. The result: Prices have increased in 53 of 100 categories. For the remaining 47 percent, prices have remained unchanged or even fallen.

Unfortunately, there was often a clear plus for popular articles: Smartphones are currently 12 percent expensive on average than a year ago, speakers even 15 percent. But if you want to buy a new notebook or an espresso machine on Black Friday, you’re in luck: laptops are 4 percent cheaper on average, coffee machines are 6 percent less.

“It’s hard to say that everything is more expensive this year,” sums up Florian Kriegel, price expert at Idealo. Bargains are possible despite price increases. “Anyone who is flexible – for example with regard to the color or storage capacity of a product – and compares offers, can save money on Black Friday even in times of inflation.”

Price expert advises: Pay attention to offers before Black Friday

But one problem remains: According to Idealo, the actual savings on Black Friday are lower than many customers expect. A majority of Germans believe they can save between 11 and 20 percent on the offers at the shopping event. On average, however, customers paid on Black Friday 2021 only a good 5 percent less than in October of the year.

But in the end it always depends on the respective offer. With the Biggest discounts in 2021 were on PS4 games (16 percent) and gaming gear (14 percent on headsets). With smartphones, on the other hand, the savings were very low at just 1 percent on average.

Therefore: Compare prices before Black Friday. It can happen that the best offer can be picked up shortly before. According to Kriegel, practically the whole of November is now a bargain month.
