A trip to these neighboring countries is worthwhile

You know the sight near the border from the days of combustion engines: just drive over to the nearest gas station outside of Germany and you can often save a lot of money. The same principle also works with electric cars, because nowhere else are electricity prices higher than in Germany. But where should the price-conscious e-car driver go?

Inexpensive charging with the e-car: These countries are ahead

E-cars are cheaper to maintain than combustion engines, that’s for sure. But electricity prices are also rising, even for normal household electricity. If, on the other hand, you prefer to charge at the fast charging station, the price advantage of electricity compared to diesel and petrol dwindles even further. Prices of well over 50 cents per kilowatt hour are not uncommon.

But if you live near the border, you can sometimes save a few euros when charging the e-car. This is shown by a comparison of the electricity costs in 13 European countries, which the car rental company “stress free car rental” undertook. Sure, ends up in the inglorious first place Germany, electricity for 100 km costs 4.65 euros in this country.

Norway (1.95 euros) has the cheapest charging current, followed by Sweden (2.40 euros). However, the Scandinavian countries are the wrong choice for a quick top-up. However, Sweden shares the place with the Netherlands. You can also charge electricity there 100 km for the price of 2.40 euros (Source: stressfreecarrental) – and thus for almost half the German price.

Lease an e-car and collect a bonus of €6,000

In France and Luxembourg, the costs of EUR 2.70 and EUR 3.15 are also more bearable than on the German side of the border. Short trips to recharge to Belgium and Denmark, on the other hand, are not recommended. There, the next highest charging costs after Germany are 3.90 euros and 4.35 euros respectively.

Those who buy an e-car earlier can secure more environmental bonuses:

No gradual expansion: German charging network in 3rd place

But there is a ray of hope for German e-car drivers: This is how you land in third place when it comes to expanding the charging network. If you go on a charging trip, you should equip yourself with a charging card and charging app for the country in question or make sure that your own tariff supports charging at the charging station you are targeting. It is also better to plan your route in advance so that there are no expensive detours.
