With the entry into force of the Czech Railways timetable for 2022 will be an onboard Wi-Fi network in 90% of long-distance trains and in a third of all daily ČD connections throughout the country. The national carrier has announced major plans to expand wireless connectivity for passengers. It will increase the guaranteed offer of the Wi-Fi network by 1,015 daily connections to a total of 2,248, and hundreds more will be covered during 2022. There are also 73 trains that will have an on-board entertainment and information portal.

“Wi-Fi will be extended, for example, to the ‘Vltava’ and ‘Lužnice’ express trains from Prague to České Budějovice and České Velenice, where we have not yet offered this service. We will also offer more cars with this service in the ‘Vysočina’ express trains from Prague via Havlíčkův Brod to Brno and ‘Bouzov’ from Brno to Olomouc and Šumperk. We have also installed Wi-Fi technology on all CityElefant units this year. Thanks to that, we will offer ‘wifi’ across the board also within the Prague Integrated Transport and the Integrated Transport System of the Moravian-Silesian Region ODIS and partly also in the Ústí nad Labem and Pardubice regions, ”says Jiří Ješeta, Deputy General Director of Czech Railways for Passenger Transport.

In accordance with the requirements of regional transport customers, ČD is expanding the offer of the on-board Wi-Fi network to other lines and to other vehicles including Regionova engine units or upgraded cars 810. Hundreds of other connections are said to offer Wi-Fi since the beginning of 2022, but in timetables, for example, due to the circulation of various sets they will not be directly marked. In this case, passengers will find out about the offer directly in the cars marked with the appropriate pictogram. Wi-Fi will be added during the year, for example on RegioPanter connections in the Pilsen and South Bohemian regions and on current trains. The new on-board entertainment and information portal will be on InterPanter, Pendolino, Railjet and InterJet.
