a third of readers use a music track as their ringtone
Not the retro bleeps, not the silence, not the vibration: we want to hear sound when our smartphone rings and that has to sound a bit good. At least that’s what our poll shows. 32 percent say they use an entire music track as their ringtone, though that group is closely followed by the 31 percent of respondents who use a standard phone ringtone.
AW Poll: Ringtones
Peter.C is someone who chooses music: “The opening tune of Dr Who”. glass blower even goes for an often more noisy live version of a song: “The Ugliest House on the Block – Beth Hart (live)”. Our own Dim apparently had sleepless nights because of all those people who kept calling, so he chose Insomnia by Faithless as the ringtone.
I’m team quiet, but that’s only a small team: 7 percent of people are also team quiet. Adje69 for example: “The ring tone is actually always on silent, the same as the message tone with a few exceptions. There is the message tone on the more than well-known ohooh from ICQ 😎.” A very good choice! By the way, if you also count the vibrators for team silent (although I wouldn’t call that silent), you end up with 14 percent, because 7 percent say they always have their phone on vibrate.
Beeps and beeps
I would have expected retro ringtones with beeps among Android fans, but that is disappointing: only 4 percent go for beeps. Luminare does have a nice answer: “I still use the ringtone of my first android phone (htc desire): velvet.” @tukker deserves a special mention in this: what a production has made of it: “I have different ringtones for important people, usually film / series intro. Their chats also all have different tones. 95% of chats are on silent.”
Finally, there is also 1 percent who say they use the Crazy Frog (actually only 0.6 percent: could it be the Crazy Frog itself?). 18 percent also opted for another option, and that is mainly the self-made ringtone: that is of course also possible! CubicNomad is such a creative person: “I make my ringtones myself, now I use a sample sound from artist Daymar – no prada.” And Ad.B: “The sound of a Japanese flute, a chakuhachi”, could it also have been played by yourself?
