31 percent of men believe that women should work less after the arrival of children, according to an opinion poll by EenVandaag. Twenty percent of women feel the same way.

The over-75s and young people between the ages of 18 and 25, in particular, believe that women should take a step back in the workplace as soon as they become mothers.

Working less after the arrival of children

“Little children need their mother more than their father, they just have a special connection”, is one of the reasons mentioned. Another participant says: “In principle, I think you should both work less. But if I had to choose, it would be the woman.” Also, the poll, which was conducted among 33,910 participants, shows that 45 percent of men and 58 percent of women believe that both partners should work less after they have a child. 9 percent believe that both partners can continue to work full-time.

Both responsible

In some families, the man works more because it simply brings in more money, according to the reactions. “If the man earns more, and in many cases still does, it is illogical for him to work less?” says one of the participants. According to a majority (86 percent) it is no longer the case that the man always works and the woman takes care of the children. They believe that partners are both responsible for the care of the children.
