a quarter of readers mainly use their phone for WhatsApp

24 percent of Androidworld readers use their smartphone for WhatsApp. That’s according to our poll this week. Of course you can do anything with your smartphone: take photos, make calls, use social media or play games, for example. But many readers also use their smartphone for other apps.

The smartphone once started as a telephone: a device that meant that you no longer had to wait at your home telephone for your best friend to call you, but could simply be called on the street. It was an invention that some people thought: yes, but why? We now know better, which is also because the mobile has become much more and that is why we were curious: what do you actually do most on your phone?

While many readers mainly use WhatsApp (24 percent), most readers indicate that they still use other apps (32 percent). Many readers mainly use their smartphones to keep up to date with the news. psybi is mainly streaming: “Watching streams (Twitch, Youtube, Netflix, etc.), then chatting and surfing the internet a bit aimlessly.” While suspect uses his smartphone more as a kind of e-reader: “Read using the Kindle app.”

Other readers are mainly interested in the ‘smart’ of smartphone, because loekklein says: “Control my house together with my galaxy watch, music, heating, light, etc., even my door. Keep an eye on energy consumption.” and glass blower also controls the smart home with it: “The smartphone has been used as a multifunctional tool from the start. Take photos whiteboard, scan, email. Later smartphone control (light, alarm, camera, coffee machine).”

Are there really no more people who mainly use their smartphone to make calls? Yes: 8 percent indicate that they mainly do that (both regular calls and video calls). After WhatsApping, social media is very popular: 22 percent are mainly enjoying TikTok, Instagramming, Snapchatting, Facebooking and Twittering on their smartphone. There are few people who mainly use their smartphone as a camera: 5 percent mainly take videos and photos with their phone. Playing a game like Call of Duty, Plants vs Zombies or Candy Crush also happens a lot: 7 percent use their smartphone mainly for that. Finally, 2 percent do not know the answer to that question.
