A new streaming service is already lurking
The top dogs in the streaming market have new competition. In addition to Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video, another big name is trying to attract customers – and successfully. The competitor will soon be launched in Germany as well. You already have a few candies ready for that.
The streaming market has become a little more colorful again. The international giants are joined by more and more viable alternatives in Germany with RTL+ or DAZN, but the streaming giants Amazon and Netflix still have their hands on the wheel. So far, only Disney + can keep up. But that seems to be changing.
Competition for Disney+ and Netflix: Paramount+ is stepping on the gas
With Paramount+, the Paramount film studio has had its own independent streaming channel in the USA since 2014, which was still offered under the name CBS All Access until last year. In the Germany is scheduled to start in the second half of 2022.
But we already have good news to announce: 6.8 million new subscribers chose Paramount+ in the first quarter of 2022 alone. Overall, the streaming service has almost 40 million subscriptions, as can be seen from the quarterly corporate report emerges – serious competition for the big ones.
Start date and price for Germany are still unclear. 7 to 9 euros are probably realistic, based on current US prices. What is clear, however, is that Paramount+ can come up with an attractive offer. Various series that run up and down on German television belong to the studio and will sooner or later appear on Paramount+.
Choosing the right streaming service doesn’t get any easier – we’ll help:
Streaming: more and more choice, more and more costs
There are also recent successes such as Star Trek: Discovery. The series just ended on Netflix. The fourth season can be streamed in Germany via Sky, thanks to a contract between the two providers. Star Trek: Picard is also in Paramount’s hands, as well as the long-awaited Halo series – also for the first time via Sky.
In the long term, much of this will probably go exclusively to Paramount+. In the US, the company has already announced films after their theatrical window to only show your own subscribers. For many consumers, the range of entertainment will become a few juicy steps more expensive. Sven and Marina from GIGA have already stated that this is not well received.
