iPhone gets new sports app with iOS 16: Condition
Anyone who wears an Apple Watch already knows the Fitness app. But with iOS 16, the app for tracking your activity is available for the first time to every iPhone owner – even those who don’t have an Apple Watch.
Read on after the ad.
iPhone fitness app
An Apple Watch is ideal for measuring your sports activities, but an iPhone can also track a few things. For example, using various sensors, the iPhone keeps track of the number of steps and the walking distance. That data can be seen with iOS 16 in the Condition app. iOS 16 will be available in the fall.
If you open the renewed Fitness app, you will see the number of steps, the walking distance and the estimated number of calories burned above. On the right, a movement ring shows how far you are already. By default, the move target is 450 cal, but you can adjust it.
The Fitness app can be useful for those who don’t have an Apple Watch or wear another fitness tracker on their wrist. If you walk regularly, the Condition app motivates you to keep moving. Now step count data is also tracked but you have to dig into the Health app for that. There, tap “Data>Activity” to see stats about steps, walking and running distances.
More stats
By tapping the top Activity block in the ‘Overview’ tab, you’ll see more stats. The top movement rings show the activity of the past week. The graph under ‘Move’ visualizes which times of the day you were most active. In the ‘Share’ tab you can share the activity data with someone. Nice for a little competition.
At this point, the Condition app isn’t very reliable yet, as you may have noticed from the screenshot. But iOS 16 is still in a testing phase and many bugs have yet to be fixed. We expect this to be fixed with the official release of iOS 16.
