WeWard: get paid to walk!
The great evil of our current society is the lack of physical activity of too many people. We are more and more of us find ourselves behind a desk and in front of a computer screen without having to walk our legs more than measure. With the successive confinements due to the COVID epidemic and the advent of telework, things have not improved since it is even possible to spend whole days without moving at all (your servant unfortunately knows very well what he is talking about ). It is therefore important to find a motivation essential to our good health to go outside and remember how our feet work. With WeWard, it’s the financial aspect which can constitute the carrot.
WeWard sends you for a walk…
WeWard is indeed an application available on iOS and android which initially appears as a simple pedometer. Nothing rocket science here, you walk and your steps are counted. But the app sees further and wants reward you for your efforts. At each step level (1,500, 3,000, 6,500, 10,000, 15,000, 20,000), you receive a number of Ward, which is the virtual currency used.
So don’t expect to become a millionaire unless you play it Forrest Gump across the continent on foot, but this simple activity can bring you between 5 and 10 euros per month. It’s not fortune, but you should know that it doesn’t ask you anything more than to live normally and to move forward. You can also redeem your Wards for discounts for certain partner sites or donate them to charity. For example, you can currently support an ACTED humanitarian convoy for Ukraine or the construction of 2 schools in Nigeria. A way to do a double good deed: the first for your health and the second for the well-being of people in need.
To increase this kitty, the application offers other more mercantile options. For example, you can have bonuses by watching an advertisement every 1,000 steps or by spending time on a video game. You can also visit shops in certain cities such as Paris, Lyon or Bordeaux and receive Ward if you spend money on it (with a minimum of 5 euros). Finally, and here we are completely deviating from the first idea which was to motivate you to walk, you can also make purchases in online stores and you will have rewards proportional to the sums spent.
Why not after all, it’s simple cashback, but let’s not forget that the application is initially there to get you moving.
Challenge accepted!
For those who really want to give their all to the sporty side of WeWard, the app does indeed offer goals to achieve. Validate your steps at a certain time, on certain days or over a specific duration… Enough to set goals to accomplish for the most complete.
Finally, the application is connected to Google Fit and will therefore give you information about your activity such as distance traveled, calories burned and the number of steps taken on average per day/week/month. It’s basic but effective.
WeWard can be a good pretext to move more with, in addition, monetary rewards, certainly minimal but which have the advantage of existing. Any initiative to pay more attention to one’s health is, whatever happens, always welcome.
