few readers become victims of malware
Only 9 percent of AW readers have definitely experienced a malware attack. It is a subject that is talked about a lot, but at the same time it is taboo when it actually happens to you. People are ashamed of it. However, it is sometimes difficult to escape, such as when this malicious software invades the Google Play Store.
Malware in the Google Play Store
The latter has happened several times and despite apps being thoroughly scanned by Google, they still made it through (or changed later). In the AW Poll we therefore asked whether you have ever been the victim of these annoying practices. A virus, a worm, a trojan, spyware: malware comes in many forms. Yet only 9 percent say they are certain that they have been affected by this form of cybercrime.
As many as 83 percent say they have been a victim at some point, while 7 percent admit they may have been, but aren’t sure. Finally, 1 percent indicated that they had no opinion.
PC vs Mobile
For reader Cyclon, it turned out to be primarily a PC affair: “Never on a smartphone. Already tried on PC, but there is good security on it. Also on the smartphone, by the way, but I don’t think that is really an added value compared to standard security.” Nobody is that lucky too, although it mysteriously adds that it is easy to find your way on the internet. “Nope and I know my way around the internet so to speak 😉“
So no breadcrumbs needed for Nobody. Not for Janthe either, because he has already built in many options against wretches from outside: “Never had any problems with malware. I have only been working at home with linux or chromeOS for years and I always use a VPN connection.” It sounds like you’re well prepared and luckily, because it can be very unpleasant to deal with malware.
