OnePlus improves update policy with the arrival of OnePlus 10 Pro
Yesterday the new OnePlus 10 Pro was announced. The manufacturer has made it clear which updates the phone can expect. It is a step up, compared to previous models.
Better update policy at OnePlus
With the announcement of the OnePlus 10 Pro, it has become clear that the manufacturer’s update policy has received more attention. Fortunately, more and more manufacturers realize that a good update policy is necessary. Coincidence or not; Sony isn’t nearly as successful; about the update policy, Sony is always very vague. LG previously threw in the towel because it was not able to achieve much success with the smartphones. There, too, the update policy was far from good.
OnePlus has now announced that three Android OS updates will appear for the OnePlus 10 Pro. Since the phone comes with Android 12, this means that the phone will receive an update to Android 13, Android 14 and Android 15. This is one update more than the OnePlus 9 Pro for example, but one Android update less than Samsung promises for its high-end smartphones. The Korean manufacturer promises five Android OS updates.
OnePlus will also continue with security updates for a year longer. With the OnePlus 10 Pro this is for a period of four years. This is one year longer than with the 9 Series. Updates will still be rolled out once every two months, which is less than with Samsung, for example. Samsung gives devices five years of security updates. For a relatively small manufacturer like OnePlus, this is already a big step forward.
OnePlus announces that changes are also being made to the update policy for other models and series. This is as follows:
- Flagship product line (including T/R): The OnePlus 8 series and newer devices will receive 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.
- North / North CE: The first OnePlus Nord and newer Nord / Nord CE devices will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
- Nord N series: Starting from N10 and N100, all N series devices will receive 1 major Android update and 3 years of security updates.
