Why does Apple’s Studio Display have 64GB of storage?
Apple’s new flagship display, Studio Display, has 64GB of storage, but only needs 2GB. Why? We explain it in this article.

Studio Display has 64GB of internal storage
It may seem a bit crazy, a display with memory storage, but it is reality. Apple’s latest Studio Display comes with a whopping 64GB of internal storage. Normally screens are fairly passive monitors, but not this Studio Display! It even runs on the new iOS 15.4, the software version of the latest iPhones.
Of course you can’t run iOS without storage. So there are storage chips in the Studio Display. However, it is very striking when you know that iOS only needs 2GB to work. So what is the remaining 62GB for? We have a theory.
62GB of storage too much, why? We speculate.
The overkill storage is most likely due to remaining inventories at Apple. And that while there is a worldwide chip shortage. The new screen has an A13 Bionic chip, which we find in the iPhone SE 2020, among other things. This phone also has 64GB of storage. Apple is now launching new phones with more internal memory.
Since this device is no longer made, because Apple has put a new budget phone, the iPhone SE 2022, on the market, there may be some parts left. These can then be used nicely for the Studio Display. We will see whether Apple will really use the full 64 GB, it remains to be seen.
Why does Studio Display run on iOS 15.4?
It may sound a bit strange, a Studio Display with storage, but it does have some use. Normally your computer controls your webcam and all software. The Studio Display is built in such a way that if you work with an outdated MacBook, for example, you can still enjoy the latest functionalities. These are things such as center point, with which you are automatically shown centrally with FaceTime, and Spatial Audio. Also, ‘Hey Siri’ works with this display on any connected Mac.
The Apple Studio Display is for sale from 1779 euros. For this price you get the standard version with normal glass and a tiltable stand. If you want anti-reflective glass, you pay 250 euros more. For an additional cost of 460 euros you also get a stand that is adjustable in height.
