The forgotten phone: Motorola V70 from 2002

The smartphones that appear today are almost all similar. That was really different years ago; for example, in 2002 the very striking Motorola V70 appeared; a telephone with a circular display; one that you had to open.

Motorola V70

We go back twenty years in time; when smartphones did not exist at all and manufacturers managed to unpack with a special design and a daring design. We also saw that at Motorola. In 2002 the Motorola V70 appeared on the market, a strikingly stylish smartphone that today is a real collector’s item. The phone is characterized by the diamond edge around the round screen. Or well, characterizes… the phone is characterized by its design in the first place. Incidentally, the Motorola V70 was also available without a diamond ring. Inside the ring were two more option keys.

Do not slide open, but open. That way you got the keyboard visible with the small keys. The spinning of this piece of plastic was also necessary during telephone conversations. After all, the loudspeaker was in here. The device was made of plastic; only the battery cover was made of aluminum. There was no camera, just like many other functions that were simply not missed at the time.

The Motorola V70 had a circular monochrome display with a three-line display. So it was a lot of scrolling. Bluetooth, infrared and all other “special” forms of connectivity were not found on the V70. A 430 mAh battery was present. You had to make do with calling, texting and that’s pretty much it.

Unfortunately I was unable to find out the price of the Motorola V70. However, the device has had a price that was between 400 and 500 euros.

Motorola V70 summarized in 3 points:

  • Revolving design
  • Round screen
  • 430 mAh battery
